Gareth Hughes began his career in physics, completing a PhD in particle physics at CERN before moving into large-scale data and distributed computing, contributing to 'grid-computing' for the Large Hadron Collider.
He later joined a UCL spin-out, applying distributed compute to drug discovery, before transitioning into finance as a quant at Credit Suisse, where he focused on industrialisation of product creation.
After over a decade as a quant, he spent several years in the business as a product lead, including driving risk transformation, before returning to technology at UBS. There, he initially ran Global Equity Derivatives technology, latter running Strategy and Architecture across the diverse Derivatives & Solutions businesses, before going on to lead Risk Technology and Quant Analytics, Structured Products and Solutions Technology.
